Meet the founder
Hello, I’m Alexis Rene Moten, the founder of the social commentary zine Culture Jock.
Originally launching as a blog, Culture Jock has evolved into an artist incubator, event hub, and cultural forum that can now be reached on Substack. Through it all, I aim to encourage readers to pause, reflect on the times and themselves, and engage thoughtfully with media so we don’t repeat the pitfalls of the past, while fostering maturity in technology and media literacy.
I built my career in marketing and brand management while developing Culture Jock, working with companies like SiriusXM, Nike, and Mattel. Alongside that work, I’ve collaborated on community-based projects curating event series, and celebrating athletes, artists, and social movement groups.
